News just in…

Ballyboughal Athletics Club

Ballyboughal Athletic Club training takes place every Monday afternoon at the GAA grounds in Ballyboughal from 2.40pm-3.40pm for children aged 6 -12 years of age.

Children are split into 3 groups depending on age and ability.

The session begins with a warm-up routine for all our young athletes and then they  go with their allocated coaching group to carry out a training programme suited to their ability.

For the younger athlete lots of games and shorter runs are included in the 1 hour session.

The older athletes can run up to 3 km during training. Hurdles, obstacle courses, javelin, shot put and discus may also be used to introduce children to all aspects of athletics.

The autumn session of 8 weeks in almost over, but we have two more sessions left, one on 15th October, and one of the 22nd October if you would like to come along and see what it’s like, and give it a go…..

Dublin Leagues
At present 9 of our athletes are competing in the Dublin Leagues and enjoying them.  This league is all about taking part and enjoying the sport.  It focuses on participation and involvement, and not always in winning!

Our Programme
Our next programme will begin in February, when we will train in Ballyboughal GAA grounds and a few trips to Santry Stadium/ALSAA stadium to run on the track.  This will be in preparation for the BUPA Ireland Children’s Run in the Phoenix Park in the springtime, and the Dublin Community Games in June 2013.

About Ballyboughal Athletic Club
The Club is open to all children from Ballyboughal and the surrounding areas, aged 5 -12 years.  Membership fees are kept to a minimum as we are a voluntary not for profit club.  i.e. (Fee for autumn term was €15 for 1 child family/€13 for second child/€11 for third child in same family).  Registration fee due again in January 2013.  We are affiliated to the Athletics Association of Ireland, and covered under their insurance.  All athletes will be registered with them.  Coaches are Gardai Vetted, and trained to Athletic Association of Ireland requirements. We are always looking for a helping hand from parents for supervision or coaching if you can spare an hour a week.
