An absolute cracker of a night took place in the end at the first ever Ballyboughal O’Connors Pub Quiz Championship 2013 Finals with a nail biting tie-breaker finish between two teams steeped in rivalry.
Taunts of ‘you there, from The Naul ?’ were heard rumoured between the two high intelligence quotient fractions with passers by reporting retorts of ‘another team’ singing lyrics from Phil Lynott’s Old Town song. It wasn’t until Johnathan [winning team member, not pictured above] from behind the bar asked the ‘other locals’ if they’d like a drink that things seemed to settle down.
After 10 manic rounds the quiz narrowed from 9 to just 2 teams, both locked on 40 points and a further two teams coming in at 38 points each. A spokesman for O’Connors noted that Air Sea Rescue were in fact on standby as 2 competitors fell by the way with writers cramp and 1 with tennis elbow. ‘They simply could not take the pressure anymore…’ noted an insider.
After the tie breaker extra final set there was a rousing cheer as The Bandits alias Lar Lynch, Hugh Fitzsimons and Gerry Seaver claimed the title of Ballyboughal O’Connors Pub Quiz Champions 2013.
On a serious note. Funds raised for Temple Street was the name of the game and a full nights entertainment was had with a packed house in the newly renovated O’Connors. Huge thanks to all involved. Full report on the big night to follow 😉
