Got this in via email from Michael Kennedy. Pardon the cliché – but a spade being a spade – he’s the only one to let me know.

I am writing to you to advise you of road works to install the East West Interconnector that will be taking place in your area.

Description

The works will involve trenching for two hundred metres. A single lane closure will be in place for these works. The carriage way will be left free for two way traffic outside of working hours.

Ah yes welcome to the beautiful countryside, farming rural town of Ballyboughal where the sheep sleep all day and the leaves of the trees rustle in the wind….

Oh hold on a second…..? The above image is what was supposed to happen. The one below is what has existed for close on…. 2 years [?] and today. Yes Folks this is what Dublins very own Emmerdale Farm ended up with instead….

I was wondering what if anything was the news with the delightful semi-pile of bricks that sits opposite Connors pub. And today I got an email in from Michael Kennedy. Fianna Fáil.

I’m mildly confused here…. because I’m guessing [at least] the €101, 895 [see below] will be going into tidying up the peripheral of the ghost estate that sits there at the moment….? Maybe it could be taken from transportation…. doesn’t seem like they have done anything with the roads….?

Maybe we should all call one could call Liam or email him and find out if anything will ever happen to the site….. ? My guess, Fingal co co will do nothing. I figured that one out on my etch-a-sketch.

At least one politician did something. Eventually.

Anyhow, Deputy Kennedy has been communicating with the Ballyboughal Community Council…. [?] and emailed me this [quote] detailed breakdown of development levies for the Swiftcourt Developments Site from Fingal County Council.

It’s the only news I can get….. What I think believe stinks is the closing quote on the bill of fare [see below]. Why don’t Fingal County council contact someone, anyone and just say here…. here is where this village stands. Here’s what we propose. Here’s when it will happen by.

To the the politcians of Ireland [from the top to the bottom] and to you in fingal county council – I have paid my taxes and levies – you have taken your salaries and pensions – will you do something in return. Will you….?

The approved development is for mixed use and is calculated on 1383 sq metres of commercial development and 9431 sq metres of residential development. There are numerous different house types and changes under Additional Information so it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to quantify a unit based levy if that is what is required. There is also a separate levy for open space shortfall.
The amount outstanding is €1,480,000 of which €1,175,000 is the standard levy and €305,000 is for open space shortfall. All of the latter figure goes to Parks Division and the former figure is broken down as follows; 48.84% to Transportation, 34.9% to Water Services, 15.68% to Community/Parks and 0.58% to Regeneration.
A sum of €493,310 has been paid to date and has been apportioned in accordance with the above %’s as follows;
Transportation €191,167
Water Services €136,603
Community/Parks €61,374
Regeneration €2,271
Parks-Open Space Shortfall €101,895

Ha ha you must all think i’ve really lost it now. The toys are out of the pram, the bird has flown, sure he’s as mad as a bag of cats. However, your wrong if you think i have gone bonkers. The title is actually refering to the eyesore adjacent to the pub. Jesus god how were they allowed to leave the building site looking more like a bombsite. Unfortunatley, the developers that own the property more than likely have no money or even if they do they wont use it to tidy up the site. I think its a disgrace & ruins our pretty little village. If you stand outside the pub & look straight across you can see the pitch & putt which is kept beautifully. If you look left you can see down the road towards the bridge. This is also a lovely sight & the community council do sterling work to maintain our precious village. However, if you turn your head right & look up towards the football pitch you can help but notice the unfinished houses. Be careful not to look for too long though because it can actually cause you to become light headed & nauseous.

This brings me to the community council. It warms the heart to see them pottering up & down the road picking up sweet wrappers & they provide a very important service to the local area. However, they seem to stop walking when they reach the pub, failing to notice the biggest, ugliest piece of rubbish in the village. Green fingers Donegan is seemingly on the council. Why not give him a few bob to buy shrubs to put around the perimeter? There is a big mound of clay on the site, so why not put a bank around it & put grass or flowers on it. That would be a much nicer option than the traditional hoarding, which in my humble opinion would make it look even worse.

So before the summer is out get your finger out, give Donegan a few quid & let him loose with a spade & a wheelbarrow & remove this horrible sight from the heart of our village.

I was talking with John last week – that would be John Friel, the brains behind turning some of my ‘other’ idea[s] into reality – this one he was most famed for.

Turns out, after being in storage for two years [this year] John needed to make a bit of space for ‘another’ car he wishes to add to his collection…

Now I have a little dilemma…. what should I do with this…?

Of course the last time I needed a home for a garden feature I had Rick… and we were most successful… a great home was found?!

I even have the television to go with it although its not included in the free car offer

Any suggestions? Would you like it….?

war memorial gardens

It is official. The first ever outing for the Garden group has been organised is set up and ready to go.

The trip is to The National War Memorial Gardens [Dublin] and it will cost you absolutely nothing.

We will have a personal guided tour and if you have never been here before… the towers will be made open and available to us so if you had [or think you had] a relation in World War 1 we will be able to go in and get printed copies from the original books of the records. The fact that the entire gardens were built by hand…. is amazing just to look at and for the pure gardener there’s a collection of over 5,000 roses. There literally is something for everyone and this is not about ones ability to horticulture….

Date and Time: Sunday 7th February 2009 at 12pm midday. Depending on yourself this should take no more than 3 hours [at a max].

To Book Your Place: Places are limited to 18 people maximum. Whether you showed interest in the previous post – or not – this is the list I will use. If you would like to go enter your details and note: ‘ i’m in ‘ – or – ‘keep me on the shortlist’

Any Other Details: My suggestion is we bring some sandwiches and a flask and maybe have a bite to eat/ picnic there [weather permitting]. This can be organised through the comment section below.

Anyone who travel-wise can only get so far – note it below I’m sure some of us will be driving and would be more than happy to pick you up en route.

Location: South Circular Rd, Islandbridge. Opposite the army barracks Entrance from Con Colbert Rd. and South Circular Rd. (Phoenix Park end) enter via school gates and drive through to the car park

So it was sometime last year that the suggestion came in to set a garden group up…. and I did… but not a whole lot happened with it for so many varying reasons… but thats another story and this is 2010.

...

It’s a new year and it’s time I got things grooving in this department…..

With that in mind I am setting the date for our first gig on Saturday 6th February 2009.

I have a few places and people in mind as a first meeting…. but you reading this may have somewhere that the group could/ should visit – if so go ahead and make yourself famous.

Other than that it is a case of numbers…. If you are interested pop your name down below and watch this space for more info.

My thinking is that it is [for the moment] would entail a personalised tour of a grounds or gardens [that would be interesting!!!....] especially for us! Depending on the how the first goes and suggestions come in then maybe we can see if and how direction changes. Of course no money would be required and maybe if weather was good enough you may bring a packed lunch and we could have a picnic…. I’m waiting for confirmation at this moment in time but should have an answer back in the next few days….. again it’s a little of a numbers game as well…. slightly vague [?] but gardens made good craic is the idea….

Cheer Up Ireland…. eh…. Ballyboughal…?

Dena...

This is Dena [above] Why is she on Ballyboughal.net….? Well…. mainly because she looks so happy here……

But…. today I went on a photowalk around Dublin City Centre… I caught up with the guys in Smithfield [I missed the Phoenix Park bit] and then walked on down towards The Stags Head direction….

The reason for all this to happen is thanks to Vodafone who are doing a photo competition called ‘Cheer Up Ireland’. It’s to tie in with their cheer up your top-up campaign, and the competition is to upload pictures of what makes you happy/cheers you up.

The prize for the overall competition is a €3,000 shopping spree at Dundrum shopping centre.

I was just thinking…. wouldn’t it be nice if a picture of Ballyboughal won the overall gig…. Well….. What are you waiting for get the camera out and get clicking and uploading…..
