Amy has come up with a really great idea of art classes on a Saturday morning in Ballyboughal.

There’s one class for kids and straight after there’s another class for the adults and teenagers.

Amy has come up with a really great idea of art classes on a Saturday morning in Ballyboughal.

There’s one class for kids and straight after there’s another class for the adults and teenagers.

All of the classes will take place in St Patricks Hall in Ballyboughal ~ located directly opposite O’COnnors Pub and right beside the entrance to Ballyboughal Pitch and Putt Club.

The Classes will last for 10 weeks and cost €10 per class per person.

One thing I do know is Amy’s classes are always fun and whether you are a Leonardo Da Banksy or just beginning, you are guaranteed it is a tenner very well spent.

Saturday morning art classes, for pro’s and beginners.

All aspects of art explored, with a wide range of mediums used. The children classes are fun and messy.

Ideal for creative kids.

The adult classes are easy going and held in a relaxed atmosphere.

Each individual will be guided and thought to paint and draw in there own style.

This class is for any one with an interest in being creative and wants to set aside an hour to focus on there artistic flare.

The deal is very simple – There is a difference between local news and what is essentially business advertising.

It may not be the rental on a hall, but like any business or club, this site has overheads, running costs and expenses. Say no more. You get the gist and welcome to the year 2012.

If like us, you are doing your bit/a gig/ or club voluntarily and for the greater good obviously there is no greater pleasure we could take than to help you out in whatever way we can and logically we will only accept payment by way of lemon merangue pie, homemade if possible. Thanks in advance and yummy in my tummy !

On the other hand, if you are a business or simply running a gig that will make you a few bob [ie. it's commercial] and would like to have that business, gig, event or your companies news profiled here then we’ll ask for a donation to running costs of the site.

A donation ?  a few bob, spondulas, some dosh, a buck, a clam, some dough, a few shillings, frogskins, duckets, the loot, licker, some bones, honk, lolly, moola -or- moolah, some readies or finally wonga.

Now you as a biz may say either

• a] stuff that – or -
• b] well that’s fair enough champ

If your answer is A] it means I have more time to walk Ballyboughal’s hedgerows with my daughter. If you’re answer is B] then that’s fair enough – and we might be able to throw a few bob towards the sites costs which Adrian and Peter have paid to date. Either or, I don’t really mind.

The sites intention was to be local news, information, where do I go, what to do on a Friday and who achieved what last week. If we can continue to do that and cover costs – I’ll be very pleased. At the moment it’s simply leaning far too much in favour of too much time and all of the money.

If we only spend a little less time doing the site, but can put more time into making the local news better – I’ll be a happy camper and the site will be a better place to visit.

This Saturday, Karaoke returns to O’Connors Pub this Saturday 4th February with what promises to be a cracking night yet again. It always is in fairness.

If you fancy donning that new gúna you have worn since Christmas there are cocktails to match your handbag and shoes for just €5 on the night and should you just so happen to be a liitle nervy shots on the night are just €2 each.

Credit where it is due… nice to see the tavern open again. And of course, should you prefer, you can always sit in the bar and watch match of the day in peace

That aside the 6 nations rugby kicks off this weekend and along with The Irish Times Fantasy League, propieter Donal has decided to set up the Killians Pub player league. Believe me there is nothing worse than screaming at the tele box at 6am watching a rugby match on your own-e-o.

A stage further ? Playing in a fantasy league [which just adds to the hype and makes the other games more interesting] when you can’t have the banter when his player fluffs it big time and you’re still sitting at home watching the tele visual with nobody but Johnny Wilkinsons shadow…..

The Biggest Irish Language Competition In History.
SUNDAY 05/02/2012 – 8:00P.M., TG4

‘An G-Team’ is a new 10 part series on TG4 that’s all about getting the country speaking Irish. We’ll be throwing down the gauntlet to small towns and villages throughout Ireland to compete in a battle to become TG4’s top Irish speaking town – outside the Gaeltacht. One town will walk away with a €40,000 prize.

This week it’s Donabate, Co. Dublin versus Castlewellan, Co. Down. Only one town will progress to the quarter-final. Find out who that will be on Sunday, 05th Feb on TG4 at 8pm.

In early 2011, the call went out for applicants and 12 towns were chosen. Over a number of months these towns had to use their best efforts to incorporate Irish into their daily routines. They were preparing for one day when the judges would roll into town – G-DAY.

G-DAY was the day where the cameras watched everything. The entire town was rigged with CCTV and everyone was under scrutiny. From dawn to dusk the community used every effort they could to speak Irish and to impress the judges.
The fathers read the bedtime stories in Irish, the butcher dealt with his customers through Irish and the local guys chatted up the girls ‘As Gaeilge’. On top of this, the towns were tasked with hosting a festival on the G-DAY. All events were organised and hosted through Irish. With 2 towns competing against each other to take a place in the quarter-finals, the rivalry was palpable.

While the main focus of the show is on the use of Irish language, it’s also about giving small communities throughout Ireland an opportunity to showcase their towns, their heritage and their plans for the future in a very positive light. Those towns who took part have put themselves on the map.

The three judges deciding on who goes through to the quarter-finals are: Mary Hannafin – Ex. Minister for Tourism, Culture & sport. Rossa Ó Snodaigh – Irish language activist & founding member of Irish language rock band Kila. Lorcán Mac Gabhann – CEO of Glór na Gael who champion the use of Irish language.
