The Fingal Folk Club is now in its second year and takes place in the old school building opposite O’Connors pub every Friday night from 8pm to 10pm.
The Set Up
It’s not trad music, entirely, it’s more a little of whatever yer man can play and whatever takes your fancy. The music kicks off at around 8ish and at about 9pm comes the refreshments and a bit of banter and natter.
Sometimes there’s a special guest which is good and varies from international guests to Irish dancing, from groups and young new fresh musicians to those in the game a little longer with an album just released.
I find the demograph [?] of those attending varies a lot. Some people bring the kids down – y’know if you can’t get a babysitter – but you’d like to get out even just for an hour or two. It’s good for that. I ‘ve also seen a lot of teens and upwards pop down with their instruments and equally without. It’s very much a case of 6 months to 600 years of age…. just about ![]()
A Bleedin’ Fiver….?
Kids and musicians get in free but there is a charge of a fiver for those who just wanna come along. Fairs fair, there is a charge on the hall to rent it, the heat and electricity etc and to be honest you’d probably eat that in cakes and coffee if you wished to bring a calculator with you. FYI there not just your average biccies either…. last week there were club milks, after eights and viscounts!
I’m Brutal…
yeah ? So you haven’t a note in your head and Jimbo is pretty disastrous at playing guitar. No one really cares! There are no superior nobles in this session. If anyone was that good they’d be on stage with Bob Dylan as I speak or they’d have been head hunted to replace Bill Wymann when he left the Rolling Stones.
It’s all about getting involved and having the craic.
What Do You Do Next ?
get yer tusche down to the hall tonight [and every Friday after that] and have a bit of craic ![]()
