Thank You: Ballyfeoil Butchers, of Ballyboughal

ballyfeoil, ballyboughal butcher

As most will be aware, any money raised through ads on goes to Temple Street Childrens Hospital for the Annual Half Marathon. It’s not a bizillion pounds, but it helps.

Today, Ballyfeoil Butchers, run by Wimbletown based Vincent Cooney have just offered a ittle help.

They’ve done our Christmas meat for the last few years and they’ve been delivering the rashers, sausages, puddings and the meat for the week to my house since they started and it was just a by chance conversation. Either way, we hope you’ll give them a little local support, wish ’em well and tell them sent you.

If you’d like to place an order just text

  • Vincent on 0851619719
  • Derek on 0852440503

Below Peter, Sean and Kevin. Inis Mór, 2017 having just crossed the line. Probably should have taken the photo before we started. Probably is probably an understatement. 2018 will be year 8 for Temple Street supported solely by Ballyboughal. Thanks all. X

Ballyboughal Senior Citizens, Halloween Fancy Dress 2017

ballyboughal, halloween fancy dress, senior citizens, 2

Saturday just gone, in O’Connors The Senior Citizens Halloween fancy dress took place in O’Connors. These pics were sent on by Rena Rowe of the evenings winners.

Very well done to all the local businesses who donated prizes for auction and for raffle. And I should also add to you who came along, did or didn’t dress up and paid the dollars in the door, dug deep for the auction and had a barrel of giggles.

It really was an excellent night with music provided by Ronnie Delaney. Well done Ballyboughal.

The Promise – The Musical, Swords Castle 2017

the promise musical, swords castle 2017

The new Irish musical The Promise which opened the Swords Summer Festival last month in the magnificent setting of Swords Castle received a tremendous response reports Catherine Fox, it’s Promotions Manager

The now splendidly restored Swords Castle, played to a packed house who were enthralled by the superb music and high drama as The Promise musical drama graced the stage of the temporary theatre within the Castle walls on July 20th last.

The cast of 10 actors/singers accompanied by a six-piece orchestra and supported by a 20 strong choir, rose to the occasion.

The drama and truly inspiring songs kept both the cast and audience engaged as they moved through the drama.

The song ‘Come Men of Erin’’ united the cast and audience against a common enemy. The romance of the musical blossomed as ‘I Promise to love You’ was sung, while ‘Across Blue Waters’ brought to the fore, all of the emotions surrounding emigration, as relevant today as it was then. But is was the song “Lark of Ballyboughal” which brought a tear to the eye of many of the audience who responded to the performance with a prolonged standing ovation.

Writer and composer Paul Redmond says “ We are now on course to take The Promise to a wider national audience and hopefully also onto the international stage, and I am so proud that the story and setting brings Ballyboughal and the region to the fore”

The Promise is set in early 19th century Ireland and takes some of its inspiration from the final battle on the east coast of Ireland of the United Irishmen at Drishoge in North County Dublin in 1798.

The Promise Musical, Swords Castle. Thursday 20 July, 2017

promise musical, swords castle

This in from Catherine Fox who sez:

You may already know Paul Redmond the singer and dramatist who lives in Ballyboughal?  The Promise sold out in a 5 night run at the Helix in 2012 and in March (2017) had a very successful 3 night run at the Atrium Performance space in Fingal Council offices in Swords.

The drama is based on the Battle of Drishogue, so it’s truly local! – and we believe it’s the first true Irish historical musical drama!! – as well as the actor/singers there is a full male/female choir….So a great night out in wonderful Swords Castle next Thursday at 8pm !!

Many thanks!
