If you haven’t been to Ballyboughal in a while… or you haven’t been to O’Connors pub in a while then you may not be so aware that Kevin and Mark [pictured] have introduced Saturday night music.

If you haven’t been to Ballyboughal in a while… or you haven’t been to O’Connors pub in a while then you may not be so aware that Kevin and Mark [pictured] have introduced Saturday night music.

You may be thinking small town pub brutal music ? [I say, You may be....] That’s what I kind of thought when I first heard.

Personally, I ‘don’t like as much’ the karaoke machine type cd musicians…. I prefer the really good guitar player who can hold his own… And in fairness 99% of the time that’s exactly what I’ve got when I’ve gone down on a Saturday.

My favourite on this list is probably Harry Prendergast as a by the way

It’s held in the left hand side of the pub down beside the fire. Some sit near and listen to the music, others the right hand side where it can still be heard.

Either or… it’s great to see it, it’s brilliant to hear it and I have to give the lads credit it creates a nice bit of atmosphere that’s not overpowering… but just right.

That aside it is always the people that make a place…. that and a good pint of Guinness   Of course if you have never been to Ballyboughal…. often spelt Ballyboghil amongst many variations…. I’ve made life very easy for you

Yes the boys called Paddy Go Easy will play in the left hand side – the lounge in the pub this Saturday.

Will this be every week…. ? My guess is – if it works out for the lads who run the pub. But… I don’t know to be very honest. One has to give a bulaidh bós to the lads in Connors for making the effort…?

It may not be U2 – but it’s something more than you had there last Saturday…. And if you don’t like that you can also ‘see’ if you can get a game of darts [or hoops] in the snug – that’s if ‘Richard Gere McGill’ will give you a game
