This Saturday, Karaoke returns to O’Connors Pub this Saturday 4th February with what promises to be a cracking night yet again. It always is in fairness.

If you fancy donning that new gúna you have worn since Christmas there are cocktails to match your handbag and shoes for just €5 on the night and should you just so happen to be a liitle nervy shots on the night are just €2 each.

Credit where it is due… nice to see the tavern open again. And of course, should you prefer, you can always sit in the bar and watch match of the day in peace

If you’re on the interweb, O’Connors is on Foursquare – Log in, leave a tip and make yourself the mayor. You’ll also find the Pitch and Putt Club there ~ just in case you wanna play it safe

Don’t forget: Friday is Fingal Folk Club night, followed by O’Connors trad session in the lounge.

Killians of the Naul – Six Nations Rugby 2012 – Fantasy Pub League

If you are looking for a local [rugby] pub – Killians of the Naul is it. QED. Fact.

That aside the 6 nations rugby kicks off this weekend and along with The Irish Times Fantasy League, propieter Donal has decided to set up the Killians Pub player league. Believe me there is nothing worse than ~~screaming at the tele box at 6am~~ watching a rugby match on your own-e-o.

A stage further ? Playing in a fantasy league [which just adds to the hype and makes the other games more interesting] when you can’t have the banter when his player fluffs it big time and you’re still sitting at home watching the tele visual with nobody but Johnny Wilkinsons shadow…..

At the last check, there were 11 others signed up for it….. Never played before ? Thenumber one thing to remember is [like life itself] it’s there to be enjoyed and it’s free. Re the how to play – Don’t worry The Irish Times explains all.

A huge thanks to Killians of the Naul who opened for the Ireland match and served a yummy brekkie.

Pity about the result in the rugby, but the service more than made up for it and is fully deserved of a mentionthis mention by way of a thank you is the least I could do.

I just dont get Twitter… now maybe you will

Twitter, yep a Tweet that old classic 140 characters, the RTs (Retweets), DMs (direct messages) and @(ats?) I started using Twitter back in 2006, the 13th of December 2006 to be precise. We simply clicked, I needed a quick (pub) update of where a friend was and Sam (nice guy) like me was on Twitter and did what any geek would do and tweeted his where abouts, pints sorted.

So in only a short while I quickly became an ambassador for Twitter, I was telling everyone about it and making a lot of new friends and finding out about new technologies quicker than I could surf an RSS feed.

Yet to this day and with its main stream adoptions some people still don’t get it. Once friend of mine once called me and said “Ok, Ive signed up but nothing is happening…” and then guess what it clicked and he’s never looked back. In fact he probably spends more time looking down at this mobile catching up on tweets… that’s a message sent on Twitter. Mind you I wouldn’t encourage turning SMS updates on unless you want to buzz shake rattle and roll. These days there is many different Twitter clients.

Anyway getting back to it. I recently came across this on Twitter and it will hopefully give you a better idea of what it is and if its something for you. And you know what… if its not for you thats no big deal Jesus will still love you, ask him he’s on Twitter too !!

Early this week, in the only pub in the village, I noticed a plethora of posters and notices dawning the walls of upcoming entertainment. I spoke with Bar Man-ager extraordinaire Dave Leavy about the why, who and what was on the horizon for the local tavern.

Credit where it is due, effort is being made – a lot of it. Watch this space. Bulaidh bós mór to the lads.

O Connors Pub sometimes known as The Village Inn

Mon – Thurs: 4 – 11.30pm
Friday: 4 – 12.30am
Saturday: 3 – 12.30 am

About:

The only pub in the village, it was October 2008 saw O’Connors Pub pub re-open under new management. A bar to the right hand side and a lounge to the left – that proves extremely important when GAA plays at the same time as the soccer. Taxi’s can now be got from the pub – just ask someone behind the bar to call it for you

Events:

The Friday Trad Session is in the lounge every Friday evening from about 9 ish onwards and all musicians are welcome. Darts are usually played off the side bar every Friday evening too. Other music nights and events do take place and will be listed in the categories section under ‘gigs’ a they arise.

If you are passing by the only pub in the village you may notice a greater audience in attendance.

The reason for that is the racing session on the year has just kicked off.

Fancy a flutter, an aperitif and a little nibble… pop your head in and say hello.

The lads in there can take your bets and I believe there are a few novelty competitions organised for those who know very little about horses.

Go on! Pop your head in with your €2 and ask some random punter which horse he’d place it on….
