On a slightly, separate note to the great special offers on at your local Mace in Ballyboughal – last night, The Fingal Folk club had this image as their backdrop as part of their evening.

Back to business and as a by the way Mace Ballyboughal have a poster noting that they have not passed on the VAT increase on any of their wines on sale in store. They also sell popcorn.

Which reminds me, there’s a hedgerow walk in Ballyboughal next Friday…. I’ll put a note up next week on that.

for those reading this outside [...]]]> i went down to enrico’s. saturday. i realised they now have a phone number. make that a telephone. talk about bally-pothole moving with the times next you know it’ll be a facsimile machine.

for those reading this outside of the town of bally-go-windy-roads you may find this humorous…. but up until a few months ago the only shop in this town was and still is the petrol station about 3 odd miles away from me and the nearest other shop is about 7/8 miles away….. so this is an extreme case of monumental evolution. fact!I’m thinking of writing to the town council to erect a statue.

However their were crazy scenes last night when for the first time in the history of Ballyboughal, the first ever fish & chip shop opened…. play the video…

This time it’s in a building….. Last night Enrico’s opened. A real fish & chip shop. Nice guys too. It has to be said that any person who starts a new business deserves congratulations, a good hand shake and best wishes. To come to a rural [?] town like Ballyboughal…. one might suggest a standing ovation?!! Particularly when one is reliant upon passing trade so to speak. All I can say is well done mate.

I met Enrico [and his father] briefly last night… it was pouring rain, the shop ws supposed to open at 5pm… the usual opening day ‘if it can go wrong it will go wrong’ took place but… it will be perfect for tonight. Nice guy, nice people. And to think only this time last year… the only thing open in Ballyboughal was the petrol station.
